 ITK

Ideal Toolkit

A specialist toolkit available to third party software vendors for the rapid development of data I/O modules for Landmark and Geoframe environments.

Provides client applications with a direct connection to either SeisWorks or GeoFrame allowing users to concentrate on Geophysics rather than spend time on mere data handling.

ITK is used by dGB to import and export seismic, horizon and well data within their dTect and OpendTect products. (The picture above is dTect courtesy of dGB).
ITK uses a fast and efficient client server architecture which totally isolates the client application from the target database.
It is inexpensive but still supports most subsurface data such as 3D seismic, horizons, well header, wireline logs, well deviation, depth to time curves and well markers.
Using just a single library ITK allows third party developers to build powerful geoscience database applications extremely quickly.

Product Description
Perhaps your organisation has some proprietary process you wish to apply to your data that cannot be provided within SeisWorks or GeoFrame. Normally you would have to resort to a series of time consuming steps to transfer your data from the interpretation system into your application. Here is where ITK can help.

ITK provides a direct data connection between the client application and either SeisWorks or GeoFrame database by utilising the toolkits provided by Schlumberger and Landmark. This seamless connection between application and data allows users to utilise their time providing geophysical solutions instead of spending their time on the usual export - reformat - import routine.

There is a total separation between the client application and the target database provided by the ITK's client server architecture. This means that the building of a client application is a very easy task and only requires the linking in of a relatively small library. Also the single client application is able to work with multiple versions of Geoscience databases without the need for it to be rebuilt. ARK CLS will provide different versions of it's I/O servers, together with launch scripts, to those customers on a support and maintenance agreement. This will allow the client application to continue working when new versions of Schlumberger's GeoFrame and Landmark's OpenWorks/SeisWorks are released, frequently without the need for the client application application to be rebuilt.

Benefits of ITK
The 'Ideal' mechanism is optimised to provide the fastest possible data transfer beteen client and server on a Sun machine. In the near future Linux on PC will also be a supported platform and with cross-platform connectivity to follow. ITK is very easy to install and use and provides immediate benefits to third party software developers. It is also used extensively in ARK CLS's own software products (e.g. Seismic Coloured Inversion and Seismic Spectral Blueing). ITK can determine whether the client application is running in a GeoFrame or an OpenWorks/SeisWorks environment and automatically start the approprietate server.

Application Support and Maintenance
With a support and maintenance contract from ARK CLS Limited, clients can download software updates in the form of new releases and patches.
