ARK CLS to build OpendTect version of SCI |
Following various communications and discussions with dGB,
ARK CLS has decided to make a version of Seismic Coloured Inversion
(SCI) which will fully integrate with OpendTect.
OpendTect is an open source environment equivalent to the commercial
d-Tect system except for ‘dip-steering’capability, neural
networks and data access modules. Building a SCI plugin to
OpendTect will allow Explorationists who use OpendTect
as their interpretation environment to have access to powerful
seismic inversion software.
ARK CLS has previously announced (see ARK
CLS news article dated 9 Jun 2003) that it intends to develop
all new software using Qt. OpendTect is
also
built
using
Qt so
this
fits in very nicely with our plan to migrate SCI to be a Qt
application. ARK CLS will continue to build and support a standalone
version of SCI but will also develop an OpendTect version in
parallel. There will be behavioural differences and some look
and feel differences between the two versions of SCI. In the
OpendTect
version, SCI would not communicate directly with third party
data repositories via our ITK and servers. SCI would obtain
all the data directly from OpendTect objects. Of course, we would
want
to
minimise the develop effort for ourselves and we would hope
that the majority of the source code for both versions would
be shared.
We believe that the look and feel differences will be configurable
at runtime, depending on which version of the software is being
invoked.
